New Residential Development Planned for Former Education Centre

Over 30 New Homes Planned for Charnor Road

Leicester City Council has unveiled plans to construct 33 new homes on the site of the former Forest Lodge Planned for Former Education in Charnor Road. The proposal includes a mix of housing, with three of the properties designated as bungalows.

Demolition of Forest Lodge Education Centre Approved

The demolition of the now-defunct Forest Lodge Planned for Former Education was approved in July of the previous year. Originally built as a nursery, the site later served as a training and conference centre before falling out of use in 2018.

Council Secures Funding for New Development

In 2021, the city council announced that it had secured funding to develop the site into residential housing. The land was subsequently included in the draft of Leicester’s upcoming local plan, a key document that outlines the city's future development strategies.

Draft Local Plan Undergoing Approval

The draft local plan, which identifies potential sites for development, is currently being approved. The inclusion of the former education centre site in the plan marks a significant step toward its redevelopment.

Council-Owned Housing to Expand

If the development is approved, all 33 homes will be owned by Leicester City Council and integrated into the city’s existing council housing stock. This initiative forms part of the council’s broader strategy to increase affordable housing in the city.

Changes to Site Access and School Security

The proposed plans include modifications to the current site access, which is currently shared with the neighbouring Forest Lodge Academy School. To enhance security, the school’s access will be separated from the new housing development, and additional parking spaces will be created. The entrance to the new homes will be relocated to Knowles Road.

Public Consultation Open Until 30 July

The council has opened a public consultation period for the proposed development, which will run until 30 July. Local residents and interested parties are encouraged to participate and Planned for Former Education provides feedback on the plans.
