This marks a significant improvement since 2022, when inspectors found that the university did not offer a consistently high standard across all faculties related to its training courses for apprentices.

Some nurses’ learning experiences were negatively impacted due to staffing changes and Apprenticeship Training workplace challenges. However, the university is actively addressing these issues. Measures have been put in place to mitigate the impact on students, including additional support and resources to ensure their educational needs are met.
Effective Oversight
The Ofsted report praised the university’s leadership for their effective oversight of apprenticeship programs. Leaders have taken a proactive approach in ensuring that all aspects of the programs are well-managed and that any issues are promptly addressed. This includes a thorough review of recruitment and induction processes for apprentices.
Enhanced Recruitment and Induction
Since the last inspection, significant steps have been taken to enhance the recruitment and induction process. Before enrollment, staff now carefully verify that applicants possess the necessary English and mathematics qualifications and have the prior skills and Apprenticeship Training knowledge required for their specific program. This ensures that all apprentices are well-prepared and capable of succeeding in their courses.
Collaboration with Employers
The University of Bradford collaborates with various employers, including the NHS and Morrisons, to train apprentices to degree level. These partnerships are crucial in providing practical experience and real-world applications of the apprentices’ studies. The university offers a diverse range of programs, including chartered management, chemistry, social work, healthcare science, and nursing.

Paul Watson, the university’s pro vice-chancellor for learning, teaching, and student experience, expressed his satisfaction with the improved rating. “We are truly delighted with this outcome. It reflects the commitment and expertise of all those involved in delivering and supporting our apprenticeship provision and the nearly 300 learners currently studying with us,” he said.
Future Aspirations
Mr. Watson also highlighted the university’s ambition to expand its portfolio of high-quality degree apprenticeships. “We want to work with more businesses to build a portfolio of high-quality degree apprenticeships,” he stated. He emphasized that the Ofsted report is a crucial step in this direction, showcasing the university’s dedication to providing excellent educational opportunities for apprentices.
